چکیده

We consider a graph edge-editing problem, where the goal is to transform a given graph G into a disjoint union of two graphs from a pair of given graph classes, investigating what properties of the classes make the problem fixed-parameter tractable. We focus on the case when the first class is dense, i.e. every such graph G has minimum degree at least |V (G)| − δ for a constant δ, and assume that the cost of editing to this class is fixed-parameter tractable parameterized by the cost. Under the assumptions that the second class either has bounded maximum degree, or is edge-monotone, can be defined in MSO2, and has bounded treewidth, we prove that the problem is fixed-parameter tractable parameterized by the cost. We also show that the problem is fixed-parameter tractable parameterized by degeneracy if the second class consists of independent sets and Subgraph Isomorphism is fixedparameter tractable for the input graphs. On the other hand, we prove that parameterization by degeneracy is in general W[1]-hard even for editing to cliques and independent sets.

Face Recognition using an Affine Sparse Coding approach

Sparse coding is an unsupervised method which learns a set of over-complete bases to represent data such as image and video. Sparse coding has increasing attraction for image classification applications in recent years. But in the cases where we have some similar images from different classes, such as face recognition applications, different images may be classified into the same class, and hen...

Graphs with coloring redundant edges

A graph edge is d-coloring redundant if the removal of the edge does not change the set of dcolorings of the graph. Graphs that are too sparse or too dense do not have coloring redundant edges. Tight upper and lower bounds on the number of edges in a graph in order for the graph to have a coloring redundant edge are proven. Two constructions link the class of graphs with a coloring redundant ed...

ON THE EDGE COVER POLYNOMIAL OF CERTAIN GRAPHS

Let $G$ be a simple graph of order $n$ and size $m$.The edge covering of $G$ is a set of edges such that every vertex of $G$ is incident to at least one edge of the set. The edge cover polynomial of $G$ is the polynomial$E(G,x)=sum_{i=rho(G)}^{m} e(G,i) x^{i}$,where $e(G,i)$ is the number of edge coverings of $G$ of size $i$, and$rho(G)$ is the edge covering number of $G$. In this paper we stud...

Network Discovery by Generalized Random Walks

We investigate network exploration by random walks defined via stationary and adaptive transition probabilities on large graphs. We derive an exact formula valid for arbitrary graphs and arbitrary walks with stationary transition probabilities (STP), for the average number of discovered edges as function of time. We show that for STP walks site and edge exploration obey the same scaling∼ n as f...

Editing Graphs Into Few Cliques: Complexity, Approximation, and Kernelization Schemes

Given an undirected graph G and a positive integer k, the NP-hard Sparse Split Graph Editing problem asks to transform G into a graph that consists of a clique plus isolated vertices by performing at most k edge insertions and deletions; similarly, the P3-Bag Editing problem asks to transform G into a graph which is the union of two possibly overlapping cliques. We give a simple linear-time 3-a...
